I know someone who got a job through a recruitment agency about a month ago, it`s a trail period job for 3 months. They`ve decided to let him go after a month. For why I don`t know. Can they do this?

As to who pays the employee, it depends. If this is a temp agency, then the employer typically pays the agency and the agency pays the employee. If the recruiting agency finds staff for permanent positions, then the company usually pays the employee directly. They also pay the recruiting agency a finder’s fee if the employee is someone they want to keep. So, the company has an incentive to decide quickly whether this employee is working out or not. If they let someone go before a certain amount of time has passed, then they may not have to pay the finder’s fee. Maybe that’s what happened to your friend. In any case, yes the company can absolutely can let someone go if they don’t feel that person is a good fit for the job.
