I want to start a information technology consulting business on my own. Any comments or advice?

I would like to start an information technology consulting business and be like a contractor. I want to help businesses store, file, archive and maintain information in the most organized and cost-efficent ways. I know this will take a little research but I have the knack for organizing information along with the patience and determination it takes to scrutinze detals and create a uniform system to keep them. I would like to completely reorganize and refile all the information a company needs to keep. I would like to help them decide what are the most important bits of information to keep, how to keep them (hardcopy, electronic or combination of both). I would like to offer to organize it all myself (document by document if need be) or be able to recommend software or methods for the safest, most cost efficient ways. I would potentially offer to scan all important documents so that the hardcopies can be destroyed, therefore freeing up space in office. But I know I’m not the first person to think of this….any advice?

What is the deal with recruitment agencies when job hunting?

I haven’t hunted for a job in a while, so I posted my resume on Monster.com as "public". Now I am getting all these calls from recruitment agencies, but not direct employers. Mostly these recruiters are looking for contract workers and consultants. So – does anyone have an experience working with a recruitment agency (good or bad), and what exactly is their role in the employment process? Also, any insider tips for job hunting? I’ve been sending out resumes for a little while and I am feeling discouraged.

I need advice on job hunting within a recruitment agency?

I registered in two agencies local to where I live and several online agencies two weeks ago and apart from a job possibility in three weeks I have n’t heard anything from them! Am I supposed to be calling them everyday to ask if there are any new job positions or might this iritate them and reduce the chances of them finding a job for me? I really need to work but for all I know I might just be a name on a database to these recruitment agencies so I need to do something more active, but what?

Is it true that technology companies hate hiring Ivy League grads in Computer Science?

I heard from somewhere that many software and technology companies avoid hiring computer science grads from Ivy League schools because essentially, they just need someone who knows how to program, and Ivy League grads come off as arrogant or too ambitious (a threat to management).

Is this true? Is it really hard for a company to hire someone from a top school for a programmer or IT consulting position?
